In the month of September 1998, exactly seventeen years after her husband’s death, Mazal Sa’adah Zeinati passed away at the ripe age of 105. Mazal was almost the last descendent of the ancient Jewish community of Peqi’in in the Galilee whose members, according to tradition, were never exiled. Today her daughter, Margalit Zeinati, remains alone in the village and oversees the synagogue and family home. A number of Jewish families and artists live in the village today, and are part of the human mosaic that makes the wonderful village of Peqi’in so unique.
